AHJ
A person who has the delegated authority to determine, mandate, and enforce code requirements established by jurisdictional governing bodies. In construction, the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) is the governmental agency or sub-agency that regulates the construction process. Canada's Constitution gives the ten provinces and three territories jurisdiction over construction. Some cities also have this authority through a special relationship with their provincial authority. To enact building and fire regulations, the provinces, territories, and municipalities pass legislation that references the relevant Codes Canada publications or provincial code.

Levels of Inspection
A standardised format for chimney inspections. The three levels of chimney inspections include:
Level 1 - Basic
Level 2 - Comprehensive
Level 3 - Invasive, Comprehensive
A "visual basic evaluation" of the system is a form of an inspection, but without covering all the elements defined in the levels of inspection, it is not considered a formal inspection.

Manufacturers Manual
This document must be the original manual that was provided with the appliance at the time of installation. This is the legal document for certified factory built appliances. Like all other certified appliances sold in Canada, the original manufacturers manual is a legal document that must be kept with the appliance for service, maintenance or repairs. If you do not own the original manufacturers manual, you can write the manufacturer to request an original copy. Manuals for the same model of appliance can change over time, therefore the manual is directly linked to the serial number of your appliance.
